Martenero is a new startup based in New York City, making small batch watches. The company has release two models at launch with the Ace and Founder available now. The Ace and Founder watches are limited to 1000 pieces before they are retired for new models. Each watch can be had for under $500 at $485 and custom made to order.
The watch I review here is the Model I Ace watch that is a re-imagination of the classic pilot watch. The classic watch is perfect for the office, special occasions and for casual affairs. The Martenero Ace can be configured with dial color, hands and choice of leather or nato straps. The configuration I have is the gray dial with white hands and leather brown strap. Martenero allows you to quickly configure the watch that you want in minutes. The company sources the parts and then assembles the watch here in the U.S.A.
The Martenero Ace features a 42mm case that is my sweet spot when it comes to size. I think the size works with both smaller and larger wrist sizes. At 12 o’clock you will find the Martenero logo with Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9. The watch is powered by a Miyota 821A automatic movement that has a 45 hour power reserve. Both the front and back of the Martenero Ace features Sapphire crystal. The crown is screw down and provides 100m water resistance. The leather strap is made of super soft leather that is very comfortable. Martenero backs each watch with a two year warranty and the warranty card includes signature of it’s founders and email contact information. The manual is available online at www.martenero.com/ownersguide
The Martenero Ace is no iWatch, it is a mechanical watch that was inspired by the past with a modern twist. The Martenero Ace is a wonderful timepiece that wears great on the wrist. I believe the fit and finish of the watch makes it every bit worth the price tag.
