Minuteman Watch Co. to date has released high quality quartz watches with a portion of sales going to charity. The company has announced it’s first automatic watch for those diehard enthusiasts who prefer automatics over quartz. The new line of watches will be assembled in the United States by highly skilled American watchmakers. Minuteman Watch Co. has been one of my favorite Microbrand watch company as they make high quality watches and give back to veterans.

The Minuteman Darby model will be offered in a choice of black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) as well as brushed stainless steel. Both versions will be constructed of 316L stainless steel.

The Minuteman Darby is named in honor of Brigadier General William O. Darby. General Darby is credited with bringing the Army Rangers back into existence in the United States during World War II. General Darby formed and commanded the1st -3rd – 4th Ranger battalions, and was killed in action near the very end of the war while serving as assistant Commander of the Tenth Mountain Division.

The Minuteman Gray Man The Minuteman Darby model will be offered in a choice of black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) as well as brushed stainless steel. Both versions will be constructed of 316L stainless steel.

The Gray Man name comes from a term used by many regarding Navy SEALs BUD/S training. “There is a saying in BUD/S: ideally you want to become the gray man. In other words, you become invisible, nobody notices you, because you do everything so perfectly that you never stand out.” The dials for this model have a black background and a very light grey printing for the text, numerals, and markers.

The Minuteman RWB The Minuteman Darby model will be offered in a choice of black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) as well as brushed stainless steel. Both versions will be constructed of 316L stainless steel.

The idea behind the RWB, is to offer an eye catching watch with blue sunray dial in a patriotic yet tasteful looking Red, White, and Blue color combo.

Here are the specifications for the above watches:

Lum-Tec has released the new Abyss 400 series that is a smaller version of last years Abyss 600M. The new Abyss 400M is part of Lum-Tec’s collection of luxury diving watches. The watch features an amazing 400 meters water resistance. Also the watch features the trademarked Maximum Darkness Visibility (MDV Technology) with an old radium tone lume. Other features include a matte finished CNC cutout dial, double-sided anti-reflective coating and Miyota 9015 automatic movement. The 400M-3 is part of a limited and numbered series of only 100 watches worldwide.

Specs:

42mm width excluding crown
22mm lug width
13mm thick
316L Stainless steel case
Bead blasted titanium carbide PVD (titanium color)
Sapphire crystal with double side clear anti-reflective coating
Screw lock crown with double diamond sealing system
High tech Viton® gasket
MDV Technology old radium luminous with matte black CNC cutout dial
Threaded solid 316L stainless steel caseback
400 meters/1312 ft. water resistance
Brown leather strap with vintage stitch. 22/22 size
Precision tuned 28,800 BPH Miyota 9015 Japan automatic movement with hand winding and hack feature
One year limited warranty
Limited numbered series of 100
Free lifetime timing adjustments

Last years Abyss 600M was an instant hit watch model yet it was too big for some at 48MM case with 13mm thickness. The 42MM case of the Abyss 400M is much more reasonable for both smaller and larger wrists. The 22mm lug width should allow you to find a plentiful amount of third party straps. The watch features a Bead blasted titanium carbide PVD (titanium color) and Sapphire crystal with double side clear anti-reflective coating. The 400M-3 is powered by the Miyota 9015 28,800 BPH automatic movement. Lum-Tec offers lifetime timing adjustments for free with the watch.

The Bead blasted titanium carbide PVD has a bit of a warmer color to it than the usual grey. The watch has hex bolts on the on the lugs and the side of the case that gives it a tool watch feel. The large screw down crown is signed with the LT Lum-Tec logo. The watch face features oversized 12, 3, 6 and 9 numerals with hour bars in between. The dial features MDV old radium lume that is bright during the day and night. A little bit of light makes the watch face glow like crazy. The hour and minutes feature skeletonized hands and seconds a lollipop hand. The leather brown strap is one of the best leather straps included with a watch that I have seen. The buckle includes the same titanium carbide PVD with small logo on it.

Last year all the reviews mentions that the Abyss would be great in a smaller size and that wish has happened with the Abyss 400M. The 400 meter water resistance can withstand all water activities and the design is very manly and durable. This is one of the best sporty watches with a premium leather strap and Titanium PVD case.

This is my first Magrette and I am very excited to review the brand that I heard a lot about from the watch community. I have networked with many new watch startups and Magrette is the gold standard for running a business. They offer great value, amazing quality timepieces and superb customer service to all it’s customers. Magrette is well known for it’s legendary professional diver series Moan Pacific Professional and now branching out to some unique and innovative. The Leoncino aka Little Lion was inspired by 1960’s. This was a time you can find inspiration in design from cars, motorcycles, films and architecture. Magrette founder Dion McAsey wanted to explore new designs and the squarish case design offers something different from the other models in Magrette’s catalog.

Model: LEONCINO
Movement: 9015 Miyota with hacking seconds
Case diameter: 42mm excluding the crown
Case finish: 316L Stainless Steel (polished top and brushed sides with bead blasted back)
Crown: Screw down crown.
Crystal: Sapphire (double domed), AR coating.
Dial and hands: old radium color Super Luminova
CASE BACK: See-through (sapphire) case back , DLC with anti finger-print coating
Water-resistance: 200m/20ATM Water resistance
Strap: Leather tan strap with white stitching, remborde edge, lorica linning
LIMITED EDITION: 667
Price: $625.00 plus $30.00 USD shipping worldwide.
Movement: Miyota 9015

Magrette includes its new signature case with the Leoncino watch. The signature case securely stores your watch in a leather style zipper case that is perfect for travel. The case has room to fit an extra strap and a spring tool. The removable leather envelope pouch can be used for your checkbook, cash or documentation for the watch.

The Magrette Leoncino features a 42mm cushion style case, Miyota 9015 movement, Sapphire double domes and AR coated crystal, 200m water resistance and premium leather tan strap with white stitching. The cushion style case gives it a unique look with a polished metal face and brushed steel sides. The buckle also features the high polished finish with the side profile featuring brushed steel. The mirror finish of the Leoncino gives it a great look from all angles. The white dial is beautiful with rose gold hands/blue seconds and chapter ring with Magrette etch into it. The dial and hands are lumed with old radium color Super Luminova and makes reading the dial at night a breeze. The back features a PVD caseback with the display window.

Magrette has switch to the new Citizen Miyota 9015 to power it’s watches and this is a solid movement that falls between the ETA 2824 and 2892. The 42mm case is the perfect size for me as 45mm is too big and 40mm is too small. The leather strap by Magrette feels of premium leather and one I would buy separately as it’s that good. The 200M water resistance provides ample ability to use this to the pool, water sports or any other water related activity. I personally prefer no date as it’s too much hassle setting the correct date over and over again on an automatic watch. The Little Lion is a watch that makes an impression each time you wear it.

Leoncino is a limited edition piece that only 667 will be produced and will be highly sought after by collectors. The watch looks great dressed up or in casual attire as well. The $625USD price tag is more than reasonable for a watch that feels like it cost several thousand dollars. Magrette has delivered a watch with retro appeal with unique case and solid movement for a reasonable price. The Magrette Leoncino is my current favorite of all the watches I have reviewed.

I was never really that interested in Deep Blue until I saw the DayNight Scuba. The watch features a large 45mm case, 9015 Miyota Automatic movement, 300M WR, Sapphire Crystal, and Tritium Markers on the Dial, Bezel, and hands. The mix of Orange and Green Tritium tubs gives the watch a great look in the dark.

The Deep Blue DayNight Scuba – Black Dial Green tubes Watch is available now for $699 HERE

Last year I followed several new watch startups launch their first watch to the market on Kickstarter. I am finally able to review several of the watches that ended up getting funded. The Erroyl Heritage watched ending up with $40,972AUD of its initial goal of $15,000AUD. The E30 is a nice blend of elegance and style with an automatic movement. Australia has been a hotbed of great new watch companies and Erroyl plans to be at the top of the heap with long-term future in mind.

ERROYL is an Australian watch company that launched in 2014 with the focus on designing refined, elegant and enduring mechanical watches. ERROYL is a touch of Earl and a dash of Royal. Inspired by the Anglo-Saxon title of Earl – meaning a member of the nobility – ERROYL produce refined timepieces that imbue elegance, respect and longevity.

Specifications:

40mm diameter, 316L marine grade stainless steel case
10mm case height and 20mm lug width
Exhibition case back
Japanese Miyota Cal. 9015 movement (automatic and hand winding), 24 jewels and 28,800 vibrations per hour
Approximately 42 hour power reserve
Flat scratch resistant sapphire crystal (front and back)
Anti-reflective coating (underside)
20mm black genuine leather alligator grain strap (tang buckle)
50m / 5ATM water resistance
Luxury leather display box

Erroyl is the brainchild of Wes Knight who enlisted a couple of friends to start a new line of watches under the Erroyl brand name. While the first watch was launched on Kickstarter, I’m told future watches will be sold directly to the consumer through their website. This will allow Erroyl to offer the best prices and maintain the highest quality.

The watches come in black, white, and rose gold with brown and black straps. The Erroyl watch uses the Japanese movement Miyota 9015 that has been proven to be reliable and a favorite amongst Micro brand companies. The watch also features Flat scratch resistant sapphire crystal, 10mm case height and 20mm lug width, exhibition case back, and 50m water resistance. The company did not skimp when it came to the Flat scratch resistant sapphire crystal that is on both the front and back of the watch. Many brands tend to use cheaper mineral glass for the caseback. The Erroyl watch comes in a nice leather display box perfect for gift giving.

The 40mm case is a great modern size for a dress watch. The watch is superbly made and comparable to watches such as entry-level Swiss Tissot Le Locle or a Hamilton Visodate. The deployment clasp strap which was a stretch goal for Kickstarter backers adds another layer of sophistication. The watch is versatile in that it can be worn with a polo, blazer or suit and not look out of place. For a first time model, the Erroyl E30 is refined and well polished compared to other watches that I have reviewed. The black dial is simply stunning with its textured concentric circle pattern and when the watch face hits light the sunburst effect is in full force. The watch has applied hour markers with Roman numerals markers at three, six, nine and twelve.

The Erroyl watches is available for an amazing $300.79USD making it one of the best bang for your buck automatic watches available. I cannot think of another watch at this price point with the features and design that Erroyl watch offers. Erroyl E30 Heritage watch hits all the check marks I’m looking for in a timepiece to wear at the office or going out with friends. If you’re looking for a luxury watch without the huge price tag then the Erroyl E30 would be fine choice to add to your collection.

The Tangramatic 39a was a successfully funded watch on Kickstarter that had all the forum a buzz. The watch brand was founded by Frances del Mundo also known as Bombfish on WUS. The Sydney, Australia based company has had great success with their Kickstarter campaign and the watch can now be purchased directly to the consumer.

Miyota cal.9015 (automatic & hand-wind),
Sapphire crystal single-domed watch glass,
Anti-reflective coating (underside only),
Art deco-style 316L stainless steel case,
Water resistance of 100m / 10ATM / 330ft,
C1 Superluminova on hour markers, black Luminova on hands,
Date window at 6 o’clock,
Engraved, solid, screw-down case back,
Push-pull crown

The Tangramatic 39a comes in three dial types, the white Bauhaus reviewed here, the blue Nautilus, and brown California dial. Each of the watches have their own personality and stand out from the usual stuff you find on Kickstarter. The watch is a great size for almost any man with a 39mm case diameter without crown, 20mm lug width, 45mm lug to lug, and 12mm high at the peak of the crystal. I found the white dial Bauhaus great as a formal wear item while the other two dials to be more casual in style. The company also has an amazing black Penta pilot watch to round out the collection.

The Tangramatic 39a is powered by the Micro-Brand favorite movement, the Miyota cal.9015. The Miyota 9015 movement is better than the workhorse ETA 2824 and is comparable to the ETA 2892. Some have mention the rotor noise on the 9015 movements, but I have not noticed this at all with the Tangramatic that I’m reviewing. Tangramatic gives you many choices of straps from Nato straps, Genuine leather strap and steel mesh bracelet. You can buy the straps directly from Tangramatic for $15-$20. Tangramatic has you covered for changing the look of the watch with a great selection of strap choices.

The Tangramatic is one cool retro watch with modern appeal. I compare the Tangramatic 39a very favorably to one of my favorite dress watches, the Tissot Le Locle. The beautiful dial, automatic movement, and fresh and unique design gives it a permanent place in my watch rotation. The Tangramatic can be dress up or down with your wardrobe selections and would look good with a polo shirt, blazer or suit. The Tangramatic gives you a luxury feel without breaking the bank at less than $500. I can’t wait to see what Mr. del Mundo has in store for us next with Tangramatic as the first watch hit a home run.
