The original Corsair featured a Swiss Made ETA 2824 movement, but that movement has become hard to come by. The 9015 is an upgrade over the less expensive Binnacle Diver that features a 8215 Miyota movement.

The Bernhard Corsair II is available now for $339 HERE

New Sydney, Australia based watch startup Tangramatic Watch Company is planning to launch it’s first watch on crowdfunding site Kickstarter. Watch and Worn is the first watch blog to cover this new and exciting watch brand to hit the market and get funding through Kickstarter.

The Brand Name
Tangramatic brand name is a combination of the words tangram and automatic, as the design is like playing tangram puzzle, arranging pieces that are a familiar to me into a more interesting shape.

First model
The first watch model is called the 39α (39mm is the size of the case, and the Greek letter α to designate the first model). This is considered the Alpha Model and was designed with a 1920s and 30s feel.

The watch features 3 distinct dials:

a) Bauhaus (white dial) – this is my take on the bauhaus design. People usually think bauhaus mean minimalism, so I decided to use that idea but be creative and use words as hour markers

b) California (brown dial) – this is a classic design that originated from 1930s vintage diver watches. And since I have a fascination for the bauhaus designs of Nomos and Stowa, I decided to combine the two and came up with this design

c) Nautilus (blue dial) – looking at the first two dial designs, I realized that I didn’t have a conventional dial. That is, one that uses regular Arabic numerals as indices. So I came up with this design that uses vintage-style numerals (some numbers are taller or not aligned with others)

The Caseback Design
The caseback is decorated by a hummingbird and fish which is a simple representation of the watch. The hummingbird represents the beating for the mechanical movement and the fish represents the water resistance. It is sorrounded by the Classical Latin phrase ‘hoc gestes salubriter’, which means ‘may you wear this in good health’

Complete specs of watch

– Miyota cal. 9015
– 316L stainless steel
– Domed sapphire crystal with underside AR coating
– Superluminova (different for each dial/hand combination)
– 10ATM water resistance
– Push-pull crown

– 39mm case size
– 12mm from caseback to peak of crystal
– 34mm dial face
– 20mm lug width
– 45mm lug to lug

Early bird prices are tentatively $220 USD and standard price is $270USD with $30 for backers outside Australia. The Kickstarter project is likely to launch in a few days. We will post when the watch launches officially on Kickstarter.

The Tangramatic 39a is a brand that will do well on Kickstarter. It has a unique minimalist dials and is powered by the killer Miyota 9015 movement that rivals Swiss ETA movements. The 39mm case is a good size for most men, the 100m water resistance should provide more than enough protection against the elements, and the Domed sapphire crystal is always a plus over Mineral Crystal. The Tangramatic 39a checks everything I am looking for in a watch and will be a hot seller once preorders start on Kickstarter.
